Pilar Moreno draws from her inner visions and from the
many lands that have nurture her unique view of the world. Born in
Spanish Morocco, Pilar has lived in
Malaga, the Canary Islands,
Spain, London, Paris, Washington D.C. and San Diego. This mélange of cultures and
sensibilities may be why her paintings and pastels often seem to
blend the timeless quality of the old country with the bold power of
a new continent. Pilar identifies with Spanish artists such as Dali
and Velasquez. American painters such as Sargent, Jean Dine
and Hooper are also among her significant
influences.
After a childhood in
Spain, Pilar received formal education in the
United
States and graduated from
San
Diego
State University with a degree in Fine Arts as well as a
bilingual teaching credential. As an instructor, she taught art and
Spanish in the San Diego Unified School
District.
But it is Pilar’s passion for music that has
brought her the most acclaim in years past. As a well-known and
respected member of the international flamenco community, she has
toured the nation and the world as an accomplished flamenco
singer.
Presently, Pliar devotes herself to what she
loves most: singing, creating art and caring for her family. She has
a studio in San Diego’s Spanish Village Art Center in Balboa Park, and also gives private lessons in fine
arts. Her most recent project is a commission from Disney Studios
for an upcoming movie. Pilar will also consider custom commissions
for clients.
